Upper Blepharoplasty In St. George, Utah

Looking in the mirror and seeing heavy, drooping lids can feel a little like carrying yesterday’s fatigue into today. At St. George Body Sculpting & Aesthetics, we understand how much that extra skin can weigh on your confidence, not just your eyelids. Dr. Mustafa Ahmed, our triple-board-certified director, has spent nearly two decades helping neighbors across Utah look as awake as they feel with upper blepharoplasty.

What Is An Upper Blepharoplasty?

An upper blepharoplasty—also called an upper eyelid blepharoplasty or simply an eyelid lift—removes stretched skin and tiny fat pockets from the natural crease of the lid. The incision hides inside that crease, so once healing is complete, friends only notice brighter, more defined eyes. Because less skin weighs down the lash line, some patients even notice a wider field of vision.

Why Consider An Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty?

Age is only part of the story. You may be a candidate if you:

  • Constantly lift your brows to “open” your eyes
  • Notice makeup collecting in a fold of skin
  • Feel that your lids create a sad or tired expression
  • Struggle with peripheral vision because of hooded skin
  • Are in overall good health and have realistic expectations

During your consultation, Dr. Ahmed reviews medical history, eye health, and aesthetic goals to confirm whether an upper eye blepharoplasty is the safest, most effective option.

What Are The Benefits?

Expect more than a fresh selfie angle. Patients often enjoy:

  • A lighter‑looking, more alert gaze
  • Smoother eye‑shadow real estate
  • Potential improvement in upward and side vision
  • A scar that tucks neatly into the eyelid crease
  • A natural result that still looks like you, just rested

What To Expect With Dr. Ahmed

  • Consultation: We sit down together, talk lifestyle, review medical factors, and map out the changes you want to see.
  • Surgery Day: In our AAAHC-accredited surgical suite, Dr. Ahmed performs an upper lid blepharoplasty under local anesthesia with light sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s comfort level. The entire experience typically lasts about an hour.
  • Customization: If puffiness below the eye is also a concern, a combined upper‑and‑lower lift can be discussed for one‑and‑done symmetry.

Is It Safe?

Eyelid skin is delicate, which is why board-certified expertise is crucial. Dr. Ahmed’s fellowship training in cosmetic surgery and long track record of meticulous facial procedures help minimize the typical risks of bruising, temporary dryness, or mild asymmetry. Choosing a highly credentialed team—and following after‑care to the letter—dramatically lowers complication rates.

What Is Recovery Like?

  • Downtime: Most people feel ready to answer emails or run light errands in 7–10 days.
  • Bruising/Swelling: Expect residual color for up to two weeks; sunglasses are your stylish best friend.
  • Activity: Skip strenuous workouts, contacts, and rubbing the eyes until cleared, usually after two to three weeks.
  • Sun: A hat, SPF, and oversized shades protect the healing incision and help scars fade beautifully.

Follow‑up visits keep healing on track, and most swelling is gone by three months, revealing the final, refreshed contour.

Upper Blepharoplasty Cost

Because every set of eyes is unique, the cost of upper blepharoplasty varies. Factors include anesthesia type, facility fees, and whether a lower lift or brow lift is performed simultaneously. During your consultation, we provide a transparent quote and discuss financing options, so there are no surprises. FAQ

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty—sometimes called an upper lid lift—is a short outpatient surgery that removes or repositions excess skin, muscle, and small fat pads from the natural crease of the upper eyelid. By trimming what time and genetics have stretched, we create a smoother, less “hooded” lid contour that still looks like you, only brighter and more awake.

You’ll likely benefit if you:

  • Notice drooping skin that makes you look tired or sad
  • Find eye makeup disappearing into a fold of skin
  • Have difficulty seeing upward or to the side because of heavy lids
  • Are a healthy nonsmoker (or willing to stop), with stable eye conditions and realistic expectations

During a personal consultation, we review your medical and ocular history—plus any dry‑eye or thyroid issues—to confirm the procedure is safe for you.

  • Brighter, more youthful eye appearance
  • A larger “canvas” for eye makeup
  • Potential improvement in peripheral vision
  • Minimal, well‑hidden scars inside the lid crease
  • Long‑lasting boost in self‑confidence

After numbing the area (with light sedation if you prefer), Dr. Ahmed places a fine incision along your natural crease. A narrow strip of skin and any protruding fat are removed or reshaped. Ultra‑thin sutures close the incision, which hides in the fold when your eyes are open. Surgery typically takes 45–60 minutes, and you head home the same day.

Most people describe mild pressure rather than pain. Over-the-counter medication or a short prescription can efficiently manage the first day or two of discomfort. Cold compresses also help soothe swelling.

Plan on:

  • 24–48 hours: rest with your head elevated, use prescribed eye drops/ointments
  • 7–10 days: most bruising subsides; many return to desk work and light activity
  • 2–3 weeks: resume exercise, contact lenses, and eye makeup (with our go‑ahead)
  • 3 months: swelling fully settles, and the final contour is visible

All surgery carries some risk, though complications are uncommon under experienced hands. Possible side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, dryness, asymmetry, or, in rare cases, infection or difficulty closing the eye completely during the early healing process. We discuss every detail—and how we minimize each risk—before scheduling your procedure.

If heavy skin is blocking the upper part of your visual field, lifting it can noticeably widen what you see. During your consultation, we perform a simple “lid taping” test to demonstrate the potential difference.

Most enjoy their refreshed look for eight to ten years. Because the aging process continues, subtle changes will still occur, but you’ll nearly always look younger than if you’d never had surgery.

Insurance considers the procedure medical—rather than cosmetic—only when documented visual obstruction exists. If your eyelids interfere with daily tasks or driving, we can arrange for visual-field testing and submit pre-authorization on your behalf. Otherwise, the surgery is elective and self-pay, and our team can review flexible financing options with you during your visit.
